School of Medical Laboratory Science

Comanche County Memorial Hospital School of Medical Laboratory Science is a hospital-based program located in the laboratory of Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma. The school has been in existence since the hospital was built in 1951. Most of the laboratory supervisors and staff are graduates of this program. Graduates from this program staff the other hospitals in Lawton/Fort Sill as well.

Comanche County Memorial Hospital School of Medical Laboratory Science is a hospital-based program located in the laboratory of Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma. The school has been in existence since the hospital was built in 1951. Most of the laboratory supervisors and staff are graduates of this program. Graduates from this program staff the other hospitals in Lawton/Fort Sill as well.

The School of Medical Laboratory Science is the only educational program based in the hospital with staff and faculty employed by the hospital. All the other educational programs are university- or vocational school-based. The Comanche County Memorial Hospital School of Medical Laboratory Sciences is the only accredited program in Southwest Oklahoma by the National Accrediting Agency of Clinical Laboratory Sciences(NAACLS).

There are two hours of classroom lectures daily most days throughout the fifty weeks of the program. Classes begin on the last Monday in the month of July and end on the Friday of the second week in July the next year. MLS students are also rotated into and taught bench work in eight departments of the laboratory: Microbiology, Serology, Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Blood Bank, Histology, and Phlebotomy.

CCMH School of Medical Laboratory Science is one of the only four schools of Medical Laboratory Science in the state of Oklahoma.

Our students take the national certifying examination by the  Board of Certification of the American Society for Clinical Pathology upon completion of our program.
